It is bigger than this pandemic, and the one to follow.
It is bigger than me, than you, than our children.
It is bigger than last week’s flood and next week’s fire.
It is bigger than any place, any one landscape, anyone’s landscape.
It is bigger—by far—than this and all the other professions.
This emergency is real. It is systemic. It is not coming. It is already here.
Let us gather, if only this once, and act like it.
ECLAS Online Conference, September 13-15, 2021
We are glad for the broad response to our Stop-and-Think call and we are looking forward to an exiting conference with all of you.
We need to put aside all practical aims and ambitions and talk about what really matters – for ourselves, our children, our students, and our discipline.
We need to recover the power of language, to call things by their proper names and hear ourselves saying out loud what we dare not utter elsewhere.
