Shifting tides
Taking care of the coastal identity of towns and villages along the South Holland seaside; whole day bus excursion, including lunch; we will be travelling along the seaside of Zuid-Holland, where the coastline has changed over time as a reaction to sea level rise, recreational developments and a shifting attitude towards nature. We will start at ECHO building on the TU-campus, for a short introduction. After this, we will travel by bus to Kijkduin, where we will see the Sand Motor and the seaside of Kijkduin. We will have lunch at Kijkduin. After lunch we will visit the seasides of Schevingen and Katwijk. On the way back we will have a quick stop at Leiden railway station. After this the bus returns to Delft.
Programme:
o 9:00am: Introduction in Hall C, Echo building, TU-campus (Van Mourik Broekmanweg 5, 2628 XE Delft)
o 9:45am: Depart bus to Kijkduin
o 10.15am: Arrival at Kijkduin and walk
o 12.15pm-13.15pm: Lunch at Kijkduin
o 13.15pm Departure bus to Scheveningen
o 14.30pm: Departure bus to Katwijk
o 16.30pm: Departure bus back to Delft (via Leiden)
o 17.30pm Arrival back in Delft

A new narrative for the Dutch polder landscape
Exploring the landscape of Midden-Delfland by bike, a stone’s throw from Delft. You will experience that typical Dutch polder landscape, with it’s geometric field patterns, land-water character, wide open views and quaint little villages. We will discuss and experience how we can take care of this landscape in the face of urgent transitions.
Programme:
o 09:00am: meet at Faculty of Achitecture rear carpark, Zuidplantsoen 5.
o 12:00-13:00: lunch
o 14:00: Arrival back in Delft (Zuidplantsoen 5).
Balancing the delta
In the delta landscape natural processes, engineering and spatial design continuously negotiate the boundary between sea and land, salt and fresh water. We will take a bus excursion to experience how we take care of the dynamic landscapes of the delta of Zeeland (Island of Tiengemeten in the Netherlands), and Oost Vlaanderen (Belgium), where the Hedwige- and Prosperpolder have recently been given back to the dynamics of the sea.

o 18:00: Arrival back in Delft

Taking care of the city
Discovering the diverse urban landscape of Rotterdam. We will travel to the nearby city of Rotterdam by train and walk along the river Maas and adjacent areas, focussing on socially and nature-inclusive, responsive projects and changes that have been realized in the last few decades. In the afternoon the group will split into two with one group to taker a boat to the windmills at the Unesco World Heritage site Kinderdijk, and the other group to cycle to outlying projects in Rotterdam.
Programme:
o 08:30am: meet at Delft train station for train to Rotterdam CS
o 9:15am: Arrival Rotterdam and walking tour central city area
o 12:30-13:00: lunch in the koopvaardymonument Erasmusbrug
o 13:00-16:30: group 1 takes boat trip to Kinderdijk world heritage landscape
o 13:00-16:30: group 2 takes bike trip to outer Rotterdam project sites
o 16:30: train from Rotterdam Centraal back to Delft Station
o 17:00: Arrival back in Delft
